Power Outage Safety Tips

If you are within days or hours of a hurricane or winter storm event where you may be in the dark a while. You are going to need some of these handy power outage safety tips.

One is stuffing a Ziploc or freezable bag and putting it into the freezer.

There’s not much you can do to prevent power outages, but if you’re worried about what’s in your freezer, I’d recommend filling Ziploc bags 3/4 full with water and pack them in the freezer to minimize the air around whatever you have frozen. If the power goes out, this will keep the food in both the freezer and the refrigerator colder longer. Obviously, you’ll want to open the freezer or refrigerator as little as possible while power is out. DO NOT turn your fridge down to a lower setting. You can use this for drinking water if it melts.”
