The Palisades is now just shy of 15,000 acres. The Eaton fire near the Angeles National Forest is over 10,000 acres. And the Hurst fire near Sylmar is just over 100 acres. However, these are growing are because the winds are not letting up. In fact, they’re not planning to let up through all night and likely into tomorrow.
The worst wildfires on record in southern California in terms of buildings destroyed Cedar in 2003 with 2,820 buildings destroyed. Witch in 2007 with 1,650 destroyed and Woosley fire in 2018 with 1,643 destroyed. Thomas in 2017 with 1,063 destroyed buildings.
How will the Palisades and Eaton Fire stack up to these previous fires with possible record-breaking winds going through the area overnight?
